Activity 1: Land dispute resolution Village Dispute Resolution Teams (VDRT) were formed composed of the respective clan committees and with a gender lens: youth, women and religious leaders to be selected and seconded by the respective community members.
Activity 2: thematic training for Alternative Dispute Resolution team members: the VDRTs were trained in Alternative Dispute Resolution Approaches (ADR) to support communities with land wrangle resolve their disputes so as to benefit from the ongoing free but voluntary land boundary demarcation, Mapping and documentation by the Sub County. The training was focused on conflict analysis, peace building and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and referral system.
Activity 3: Facilitation of the Village Dispute Resolution Team (VDRT) to resolve land disputes: The project facilitated the Village and Parish Dispute Resolution Teams (V/PDRT) to attending to community land disputes. These teams provide ADR to the emerging land disputes and conflicts registered during awareness raising sessions as well as those arising from the demarcation process. These were accompanied by a project staff to provide mentorship during the Mediation sessions. This approach has helped many people especially women and marginalized persons because it is proximate and bears minimal costs.
