Teso Initiative for Peace (TIP) is a membership, Non-Governmental Organization that was initially formed to respond to the deprivations brought about by the Uganda People’s Army (UPA) rebellion and cattle rustling in the 1980s. The insurgency left many people traumatized and dejected. The initiators of TIP were motivated by the desire to stop violence and carnage (negative peace) first and seek justice (positive peace) later. TIP was then registered as a Non-Governmental Organisation with the National NGO Board, by coincidence on the 21st September 2001, a day when the world commemorates the International Day of Peace!
Since then TIP has grown in stature and commitment to peace, human rights and governance including supporting community livelihoods. From working with volunteers one decade ago, TIP now has 13 staff, dedicated to enhancing the enjoyment of people’s right to justice and peace.
