Welcome To Teso Initiative for Peace

Teso Initiative for Peace (TIP) is a membership, None Governmental Organization that was fomed by leaders in Teso when responding to deprivations brought about by the insurgency in the area in the 1980s. the renowned religious, political and opinion leaders, in the names of Rev. Fr. Richard Pius Okiria, Ms Adio Winifred, Amojong Akello Frances, Hon. Christine Amongin Aporu, Mrs Ebwadel Grace, Ann Mary Epechu, Ariko Francis (RIP), Mrs. Christine Oluka (RIP), Hon. John De-witt Oriokot, Fr. Boguslaw Zero, Rev. Opol developed some actions to respond to the people’s plight. They initially held meetings and workshops to explore ways of overcoming the taunting situation. Focusing on peace building in the Teso, Karamoja and Sebei regions This prompted them to register Teso Initiative for Peace (TIP) as Non-Governmental Organization with the National NGO Board, by coincidence on the 21st September 2001, a day that the world chose to celebrate the International Day of Peace! As time went on, The initiators elected an interim Board of Trustees to guide TIP’s operations and later on an interim Board of Directors to develop policies. The first AGM took place in 2006 where the first substantive Board of Directors was elected, who worked together with the volunteers to secure funding from the then German Development Service (ded) for the initial project named: “Bridging the Gap”. With the support of a Civil Peace advisor seconded to this project from the German Government, this project commenced its activities in 2005 and ended in 2011. Other funding partners came in to support the organization funding different projects. TIP employs a united team of thirteen (13) qualified staff members and one Volunteer attached to Katakwi Office. TIP operates in 3 districts of Teso with district based offices in Amuria, Katakwi and its Headquarter office being situated in Soroti District.
